Baked gnocchi bolognese

A generous sprinkle of melted bocconcini on top makes this simple dish quite exciting. I always add a splash of wine to my Bolognese sauce, but it is not part of official recipe 🙂 Buy good quality fresh gnocchi that taste as good as home made.


Ingredients

  • 500 Grams
    beef mince
  • 1
    small onion, finely chopped
  • 4
    garlic gloves, finely chopped
  • 250 Grams
    button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1
    jar of Italian passata
  • 1 Cup
    beef stock
  • 10
    baby bocconcini, halved
  • handful of basil leaves
  • 500 Grams
    packet of fresh gnocchi
  • olive oil

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a frying pan. Cook onion, garlic and mushrooms for 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.

  2. Cook beef mince, breaking up any lumps for about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Add onion and mushrooms mixture. Add passata and stock, stir to combine. bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, partially covered, stirring often, for about 15 minutes, or until mixture thickens.

  3. Meanwhile, cook gnocchi in a boiling water for 3 minutes or until they float to the surface. Drain well. Preheat oven to 200 C.

  4. Spread half of the mince mixture over a base of ovenproof dish. topn with gnocchi and remaining beef mixture. Sprinkle with bocconcini cheese. Cook for 10 minutes ot until cheese melts and is golden. Sprinkle with basil leaves.
